Not sure why there are complaints... Itchy? Duh it's made of fiberglass! Fades? Any wrap will unless it's sealed & occasionally retouched. Didn't lock in the heat? Wasn't enough overlap. Unraveling? Probably didn't wrap it tight enough.
If your a beginner, here's a quick "how to" guide:
Get some good gloves. Don't wear your favorite shirt & add a few drops of dawn in a 1/4 gallon of water (helps pull the material tightler. Quickly submerge it in water for a min, clamp down the end & use a 75% overlap. If going around bends, you will find additional wetting & new angles will help achieve both a seamless / tight wrap. Be sure each wrap around is very tight & uniform. Last but not least: Be sure & use a zip-tie tool for metal ties OR use automotive hose clamps. Hose clamps don't look nearly as fancy, but they work just fine & are sometimes easier in certain areas.
Installation was very easy. Things you won't know until after you purchase it are:
*Wear a ton of protective clothing then immediately burn them after installation. Fiberglass will be in every inch of your exposed skin. You will itch for 36 hours.
*When this is curing on to your pipes, it is burning off what smells like toxic chemicals. I have no idea if it is toxic or not, it just smells like you shouldn't breathe it.
*The instructions very clearly include spraying a high temp silicone spray after installation. I don't actually know why other than it will help the wrap retain it's color. You should prob just add it to your cart now.
*This is actually a really good deal for heat wrap. I would recommend - especially at this price point.
I was run off the road by a cager, and my pipes were dented and scratched. I tried removing the rust, stripping, and painting them with VHT ceramic paint, but it looked awful. These wraps completely cover the mess of dents and rust.
I purchased two of these to cover the exhaust on my V-Star 1100. It was a real pain to put on, primarily because of the heat shields and the mufflers being welded together, so I could not pass the wrap around the back; I had to pull it between the pipes and over every time.
**Make sure to seal this with the proper color high-temp silicone sealer and then cure!**
The product itself has no faults, it went on perfectly and looks great after 2,000 miles.
This is good wrap, easy to use and apply. Very dark gray at first, but after about 100 miles the color has begun to evaporate or burn off... I can smell it slightly when I stop, and the wrap is turning white as you can see in the picture, taken after ~1000 miles. My bike runs well, not abnormally hot so I'm surprised there isn't a higher temperature threshold for the color.
My first attempt at wrapping. Toni K. linked me up with instructional videos on how to complete this procedure. The CX racing KA24E exhaust turbo manifold was kind of difficult because of the spilt and the way to wrap it. I wasn't sure if the pipes should of been seperate or not. I wrap it together. Also wrapped the v band dump pipe, then used the stainless steel tie downs. Then sprayed them both with DEI high temp silicone coating. Had to buy more tie downs needed more.

In order to make a super tight wrap , I dipped mine in water for 30 mins to make it "streachy" the dye came right off and became a matte grey. Still works and keeped the heat away off my tranny and oil pan from my long tubes(camaro ss) if you want it for cosmetics this will turn white after 1 week, but if you want it for the true purpose then you cant go wrong with 13 bucks... P.S THESE METAL ZIP TIES SUCKS!!!!! USE PIPE CLAMPS!!!!!(O RINGS)
Worked out really well on my motorcycle header. Great price, arrived quickly. I ended up ordering a pack of SS ties as this kit only includes a couple, not enough for my project. Be sure to wear gloves/long sleeve shirt while handling. Also note that the wrap will smoke like it's about to burst into flames for the first few minutes. I actually ran a fan over the header and just let the bike idle for about 15 min to let it burn the oils off... and had a fire extinguisher handy just in case.
This stuff worked really good on my laf pipes for my sportster. Wet them first before you use it and it makes it easier to stretch it around the pipes. Do yourself a favor and buy stainless hose clamps. Wasn't crazy about the stainless zip ties because you just can't get them very tight.
These wraps worked great. It was easy to apply them and we used hose clamps because I did not have the tool to properly tighten the metal zip ties. This was not a problem because I had used hose clamps before on the old wraps. These wraps were wider than my old wraps (2 inch vs. 1 inch) so that made the overlapping better. The seller sent an email immediately after I ordered the wraps with instructions and several links to videos which would show me how to properly install the wraps which I thought was really helpful. Just an FYI the black sealing spray will not ship to California so I went to the auto parts store and bought a can of black high heat header spray paint. The spray worked great and there was a little bit of smoking while the wraps "baked" but not bad all. Happy with the wraps.
So, package came quick. Enclosed was a card that let me go look at videos to both wrap the pipes, use the tie downs and use the hi temp spray. Excellent! The product was easy to use and the spray as well. After I let the bike run to cure it all, I let it sit for 15 minutes. The muffler was scalding hot still. The wrap portion coming from the head was HAND TOUCHABLE!!! No burns. I was able to immediately put the heat shield back on by hand!!!!! Even if the color changes it’s no big deal for me as the heat shield covers most of it. Bike is a 2003 Yamaha Vstar 650 which has burned my right leg so many times I can’t even count. Hoping this will make it better.
