This is a cheap muffler. With that said, i would say that it sounds pretty good, and will do what it is intended to do. I know that the paint is to keep it from rusting before it reaches the customer. It should be stripped then painted with some sort of high temp paint. I just installed the muffler, and am going to use some very high temp ceramic header paint on the muffler one the paint that is on burns off. Probably won't last more than a few years, but that's okay. These are cheap, and easy to install.
