This was my final step to remove all the exhaust restrictions on my 98 XJ 4.0. Combined with a high flow cat and muffler, Spectre air intake and brand new B pipe, my 21 year old daily driver is a hell of a lot more fun to drive. Not sure why everyone is having issues making a tight seal with the manifold. You MUST take your time with these bolts. I recommend replacing all the bolts as well, Dorman makes the set. Save your old washers as you will need them to flush the manifold. Quality TIG welds and a very pretty collector. Note that the collector does contact the block where it meets the oil pan. I plan on further manipulating the down exhaust pipe by replacing the isolator to see if that gives me an inch or two. Pro tip: while the manifold is off, hit it with some primer and paint--95% of the beautiful header is hidden beneath it anyways. I used a Fel Pro gasket and I'm keeping the gasket supplied with this unit in my garage "just in case". I would absolutely buy this again if the need arises.
Great quality a lot better than expected for the price everything went smoothly during install had none of the issues other people had stated above installed on a 96 XJ the only thing I did was upgrade the gasket to a felpro would recommend!
Works great for the price. Would have given it a 4 star but the only complaint is on me for not owning a ratching wrench. One bolt it almost blocked compared to the way the stock exhuast tubes ran but still works. That and the black finish instantly burned off so go without the finish.
Bolted right up with no problem on a 1995 ZJ. The factory header was cracked in multiple places and the Jeep sounded like a junk tractor. It’s been on a couple months now and no problems whatsoever.
Worked fine on my 1996 4.0l with minor fitment issues as described by others. Mounting surface was true and flat. I opted for a Fel-Pro intake/exhaust gasket after reading other reviews.

Getting more air into your engine and more exhaust out is the key to a performance motor. That's where exhaust headers is significant as the first revenue of an exhaust system. Exhaust performance headers manipulate the air flow with the performance-robbing exhaust manifold that came with your car. Headers provide each cylinder with its own mini exhaust pipe, which means exhaust headers prevent interference among cylinders thus, the backpressure that occurs in common exhaust manifolds. When cylinders don't have to fight with each other to expel their exhaust, they can put more power through the wheels, pushing the vehicle. Combining with a high performance cold air intake and a cat-back exhaust system, a header system removes all restrictions of your engine then, it is able to perform at its full potential.
So if you have an early style intake manifold then this is bolt in, no issues. If however you have a newer style "horseshoe" intake manifold then, like me, you WILL be using a big hammer on the number 6 runner. Would I do it again, Absolutely! It only takes a couple of well placed hits with a ball peen hammer then it will fit. The quality of this header is incredible for the price. However, don't expect any performance improvements with this though, unless it's in combination with other upgrades.
I did upgrade the gasket. This fit on my reman engine for my 1997 XJ perfectly. No bending, nada. It truly fits like a glove.
I installed this header on my 1997 4.0L wrangler because I had a cracked exhaust manifold which sounded horrible. The bottom 4 bolts were difficult at first until I realized that all four of them can be reached from the top. After I was done the results are well worth the the the time and effort. First of all the sound is very impressive, not to mention the power gain. when I purchased the jeep it already had the exhaust leak so did not know life without it, but I'm very impressed with this product.
Great product for a low price. The look and quality are excellent. Went in easy. Time will tell how it lasts
